Historic building, Malayan Railway Station


The uniqueness of the architecture on Kuala Lumpur Railway Station.
Malayan Railway Station’s building is one of the historic buildings in Kuala Lumpur, which is still used to this day. Built in 1910 has unique architectural features as well as other buildings built during the same time such as Sultan Abdul Samad Building. For this station Arthur Benison Hubback maintaining the Mughal architecture application in his design.

It costs RM23,000 and began operations on 1 August 1910. The station later became the main station with the demolition of the Resident Station and also the isolation of the Sultan Street’s Station. The building also includes a hotel, Station Hotel (now known as Heritage Station Hotel). The station is still operating despite Kuala Lumpur's main station has been moved to KL Sentral.

Even though it has spanned over a hundred years, the station continues to be upgraded to enable it to continue to provide services to the users of railway transport. Commuter Train services were first introduced at this station in 1995 with two main lines of Rawang - Seremban Line and Sentul - Port Klang Line.

To this day, this historic building is yet to be visited by the public and tourists not only because of its functions but also because of its unique architecture. It is one of the popular pictorial locations around Kuala Lumpur on par with other locations in the surrounding attractions such as Masjid Negara, Islamic Arts Museum and other places in Taman Tasik Perdana area.

Bangunan Bersejarah, Stesen Keretapi Tanah Melayu

Keunikan senibina pada Stesen Keretapi Kuala Lumpur.

Bangunan Stesen Keretapi Tanah Melayu merupakan salah satu bangunan bersejarah di Kuala Lumpur yang masih lagi digunakan sehingga ke hari ini. Bangunan yang didirkan pada tahun 1910 ini mempunyai ciri-ciri senibina unik seperti juga bangunan-bangunan lain yang dibina pada masa tersebut seperti Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad. Bagi Stesen ini Arthur Benison Hubback mengekalkan senibina Mughal yang diapplikasikan pada masa tersebut.

Ia menelan belanja RM23,000 dan mula beroperasi pada 1 Ogos 1910. Stesen ini kemudiannya menjadi stesen utama dengan perobohan Stesen Residen dan juga pengasingan Stesen Jalan Sultan. Bangunan ini turut merangkumi sebuah hotel iaitu Hotel Stesen (kini Hotel Stesen Warisan). Stesen ini masih lagi beroperasi walaupun stesen utama Kuala Lumpur telahpun berpindah ke KL Sentral.

Disebalik usinya yang telah menjangkau lebih seratus tahun, stesen ini terus dinaiktaraf bagi membolehkan ia terus memberikan khidmat kepada para pengguna pengangkutan keretapi. Perkhidmatan keretapi komputer mula diperkenalkan di stesen ini pada tahun 1995 dengan dua laluan utama iaitu Laluan Rawang – Seremban dan juga Laluan Sentul – Pelabuhan Klang.


Sehingga ke hari ini bangunan bersejarah ini masih lagi menjadi kunjungan orang ramai dan pelancong buka sahaja kerana fungsinya malah kerana senibina uniknya. Ia merupakan antara lokasi bergambar yang popular di sekitar Kuala Lumpur setanding dengan lokasi-lokasi tarikan lain di sekitarnya seperti Masjid Negara, Muzium Kesenian Islam dan tempat-tempat menarik lain yang terdapat di Taman Tasik Perdana.

Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur

Petronas Twin Towers is the most popular landmark in Kuala Lumpur as it can be seen from a distance of tens of kilometers outside Kuala Lumpur. It was the world's tallest building in the world from 1998 to 2004, but it still retains the title of tallest twin towers in the world to this day.


The towers were designed by Argentine architect, Cesar Pelli. The resulting design is adapted to the architecture that reflects the characteristics and cultures of Kuala Lumpur City. Apart from the twin towers, Cesar Pelli also designed several other buildings in the world, including Key Tower, Cleveland; Cira Centre, Philadelphia; 30 Hudson Street, Jersey City; 1 Canada Square, London; Riverview Plaza, Wuhan; Wells Fargo Center (Minneapolis), Minneapolis.

Work on the building commenced on 1 April 1994 and completed on 1 March 1996. It, however, was officially opened by the Fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad on 1 August 1999. The building that houses Suria KLCC shopping complex also houses offices space for Petronas and other major companies such as Huawei Technologies, Boeing, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera English, HCL Technologies, IBM, Microsoft, Reuters, Carigali Hess, Khazanah Nasional Berhad and others.

Adjacent to the building there is a 17 acres park, the KLCC Park which allows visitors to enjoy a refreshing atmosphere. It is equipped with a pool of water, walkways and a children's playground. You may also be able to watch the interesting show of illuminated water fountains at certain times each night.

Skybridge is located on floors 41 and 42.

Other interesting thing is to cross the Skybridge located on floors 41 and 42 at an altitude of 170 m (558 ft). The bridge has a length of 58 m (190 ft) long and weighs 750 tons. Only 1,000 tickets will be distributed on a daily basis once it is free, however starting in 2010 tickets are being charged on certain prices. Although the Petronas Twin Towers is no longer the tallest building in the world, but it is still the tallest twin towers in the world. Besides, the unique characteristics that gives the tower unique displays of Malaysian culture. It is a landmark of Kuala Lumpur City you should not miss.

Menara Berkembar Petronas, Kuala Lumpur

Menara Berkembar Petronas pada waktu malam.

Menara Berkembar Petronas merupakan mercu tanda yang paling popular di Kuala Lumpur kerana ia boleh dilihat sejauh puluhan kilometer dari luar Kuala Lumpur. Merupakan bangunan tertinggi di dunia dari tahun 1998 sehingga 2004, namun ia masih mengekalkan gelaran menara berkembar tertinggi di dunia sehingga ke hari ini.


Menara ini adalah hasil reka bentuk yang dihasilkan oleh arkitek Argentina, Cesar Pelli. Reka bentuk yang dihasilkan adalah bersesuaian dengan reka bentuk yang melambangkan ciri-ciri Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur dan kebudayaannya. Selain daripada menara berkembar ini Cesar Pelli turut mereka beberapa bangunan lain di dunia termasuk Key Tower, Cleveland; Cira Centre, Philadelphia; 30 Hudson Street, Jersey City; 1 Canada Square, London; Riverview Plaza, Wuhan; Wells Fargo Center (Minneapolis), Minneapolis.

Kerja-kerja pembinaan bangunan dimulakan pada 1 April 1994 dan siap pada 1 Mach 1996. Ia bagaimanapun dibuka secara rasminya oleh Perdana Menteri Malaysia ke-4, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad pada 1 Ogos 1999. Bangunan yang turut menempatkan ruangan pusat membeli belah Suria KLCC ini turut menempatkan ruangan pejabat bagi Petronas dan syarikat-syarikat utama lain seperti Huawei Technologies, Boeing, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera English, HCL Technologies, IBM, Microsoft, Reuters, Carigali Hess, Khazanah Nasional Berhad dan lain-lain lagi.

Bersebelahan dengan bangunan ini terdapat taman seluas 17 ekar iaitu KLCC Park yang membolehkan para pengunjung menikmati suasana menyegarkan. Ia dilengkapi dengan kolam air, laluan pejalan kaki dan taman permainan kanak-kanak. Anda juga mungkin berpeluang menyaksikan pertunjukkan pancutan air bercahaya yang menarik pada waktu-waktu tertentu setiap malam.

Anda juga mungkin berpeluang untuk menyeberangi Skybridge yang terletak di aras 41 dan 42 pada ketinggian 170 m (558 ft). Jambatan ini mempunyai kepanjangan 58 m (190 ft) panjang dengan beratnya adalah 750 tan. Hanya sebanyak 1000 tiket yang akan diagih-agihkan setiap hari yang dahulunya ianya adalah percuma. Bagaimanapun bermula pada 2010 tiket-tiket mula dikenakan caj pada harga-harga tertentu. Tiket boleh didapati dari kaunter tiket di aras councorse menara tersebut. Walaupun Menara Berkembar Petronas bukanlah lagi merupakan bangunan tertinggi di dunia, namun ia masih lagi merupakan menara berkembar tertinggi di dunia. Selain itu keunikan ciri-cirinya yang tersediri memberikan menara ini nilai yang berbeza dalam menampilkan kebudayaan Malaysia. Little India, Brickfields in Kuala Lumpur


Little India, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.
Little India is the small part in Kuala Lumpur that is interesting as its representing Indian people who live in this area. The area fills with decorations with local Indian cultural motifs that can be seen everywhere here. Other than highly decorated house of worship, there are many merchants selling goods for Indian and visitors needs.

A visit to Little India will allow you to know more about how Malaysian Indian cultures that influenced by the Malaysian ways of lives. All over the area are decorated nicely with Indian’s motif arts from the pedestrian walkway, the gate, water fountain, sculpture and many other decorative found all over this place. It’s a short visit to India while you are here in Kuala Lumpur.

Although the area full with Indian cultural decoration motifs, many facilities available to suite different kind of visitors need. Located close to the main transport hub of KL Sentral, Little India can be visited by walking from there. You can take the LRT or monorail and walk down the road to Brickfields. Among the interesting structure that you can see at Little India are attractive street decorations, fountains and unique sculptures. You may also have the opportunity to feed the pigeons that can be found in this area.
